Welcome to
Centre for Climate Change and DisAsteR management
(C≡DAR)
Chairperson’s Note

The world today faces unprecedented challenges due to climate change, which is altering natural systems and increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) is particularly vulnerable, with rising instances of landslides, flash floods, droughts, and infrastructure disruptions. As we navigate these challenges, it is crucial to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding climate change impacts, disaster resilience, and sustainable adaptation.
C≡DAR (read as CEDAR) is established to address these pressing concerns by fostering cutting-edge research, developing innovative solutions, and engaging with policymakers and local communities. At IIT Mandi, we leverage our strategic location in the Himalayan region and the expertise of our faculty, researchers, and collaborators to create practical and scalable interventions. Our focus spans climate change modeling, atmospheric sciences, hydrology, geohazards, and resilient infrastructure, all aimed at mitigating risks and improving disaster preparedness.
Through national and international collaborations, industry partnerships, and government linkages, we strive to be a hub for climate resilience research and capacity building. Our vision is to contribute meaningful scientific insights and technological advancements that empower communities and decision-makers to build a safer and more sustainable future.
We invite researchers, students, policymakers, and stakeholders to join us in this crucial endeavor. Together, let us work towards a more resilient and adaptive world.
Objectives
The Centre’s main objectives are:
National level facility creation for field-laboratory-numerical studies in climate change and disaster resilience.
Developing innovative and sustainable solutions for resilient infrastructure with a specific focus on mountainous hazards.
Increasing the outreach by short-term courses, aligned diploma and masters programs, training and capacity building programs.
Encourage innovation, critical thinking, teaching and learning aspects
Creation of national-level competence to address the domain issues for state-region-local requirements
Developing informed mitigation measures/schemes through exploiting technological advancements and AI/ML based tools.
